Hugh Hamilton

An alumni of UC Santa Cruz, and shot for their annual report, Paul founded his company Sagetel five years ago. Having grown up in a pretty rough part of Oakland he was lucky enough to make it to private school and then to College. From living in his car when he first left school he now owns his own company with twenty employees. I cribbed the quote below from UCSC's story about him and it says it all. He is one of those guys that gives me hope for our society. The basketball in the pictures represents the fact he donates a lot of his time and energy coaching disadvantaged kids and helping them realise that as important as sport can be, school and grades are just as important.

"I know I'm not self made," he says. "I exist as myself today due to the fact that people at some point in time spent money solely for my benefit. So it's important to me to ensure that the other youth that are coming up today have those same opportunities. My success is due to the fact that people did what I'm trying to do, and I'm trying to reciprocate the same thing."
