And an honorable mention

September 10th, 2009

I posted last week about my third place in the music section of The international Photo Awards, but I should have pointed I got an Honorable Mention in the Editorial Personality section (there are a lot of categories...on the other hand, there are a lot of entries too so just to make it into anything is pretty good I reckon).....

You can check out that gallery at

I'm in REALLY good company so I feel really honored, more so than the third place I got in the music section (see previous entry)

I have posted this picture before, but since taking this portrait I have managed to read the book he wrote, The Shadow of the Wind.

And it was really good. A love letter to the world of literature, as my journalist friend Helen (who did the interview) wrote. Highly recommended.

Leslie Nielsen

September 10th, 2009

This is just a flashback. Way back when I was too young to know what I was doing, and still really an assistant,  I did manage to photograph Leslie for an old Sydney magazine called Stiletto. A hotel room, of course....he was great. Shook my hand, said, son I'm sixty something years old and I don't give a f%$%$#. What do you want me to do? I asked him to pull faces. I found this yesterday amidst some old papers. I'm posting it since I realise I've come full circle, through a long learning curve and lots of big productions and post production to realise I'm happiest with nothing more than a camera and a subject....

The IPA awards

September 2nd, 2009

Last year back in Sydney I was sitting in the Bayswater Brasserie enjoying a beverage when my friend Ross Wallace pops in and shows me a picture on his iphone. Whats that? I say. Its a guitar boat, he says. Designed it for a music video tomorrow. What time and where? I ask. So me and my camera wandered down at dawn.....

Musician was a lovely guy by the name of Josh Pyke. Check the video out at

And now its won third prize in The International Photo Awards (pro music section).

Lots of people think its photoshop. Its real...check out the tape all over the motor to hide the outboard brand!
