Chatting one day to the mother of one of my daughter's friends. And what does your husband do? I ask, making conversation. He shoes horses, she smiles back. Oh he's a farrier? I ask, amazing myself that I know the right word. At the right time (that so rarely happens).

Then I said, could I take his picture?

Over a year I drove to Clay La Force's home in Temecula - for mysterious reasons the publication of the magazine to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the school was then delayed, and delayed again.
