New Old School.
Do you like smacking the lip or touching the glide? Do you prefer to exercise your legs and go for walk or stand still and stear from the rear.
Longboarding times are changing, in fact we are returning to the past. The rise and rise of the logger has brought traditional style longboarding back. This year the ASP rules for performance longboarding have been modified to reward more traditional moves. Basicially you can't have a wave score over a 7.5 if you don't combine modern manoeuvers with traditional moves. This used to be an 8.0
We all know Curly is often not the best wave to showcase the art of traditional longboarding, but now after hosting two world class Maljam events you'd have to admit that traditional surfing manouvers can be done here - and how good does a nose ride look on a critcal wave like ours!
So, what to do fellow back-of-the-board-longboarders? Reckon it's time to do a Jonnie Walker and (all of us who don't) start walking - who knows where we'll end up.
To kick off here's the current rules as they stand for performance and Log.
Am sure this will be a hot topic of debate at the end of year presso.
